Have a Horrendously Healthy Halloween

Does the thought of a "healthy" Halloween seem like a contradiction? While the holiday may be about dressing up in costumes, it's more about candy for the kids and maybe even a few sweets for us adults. Whether you've got young children at home, costumed kiddos knocking down your door or you're just making the holiday party rounds this year, here are a few tips to make it through Halloween with your health in tact.

1. Make It a Family Night At Home. Convince your little ghouls and goblins to have a costume party at home and avoid the temptation of trick-or-treating. Keep them busy with fun activities like bobbing for apples, pumpkin carving and dancing the “Monster Mash.” Skip the soda and wow them with Want More Energy?® in Orange, Grape or Citrus. Make homemade treats and try experimenting like a "mad scientist" with some of our kid-friendly shake concoctions on our all-new recipes page.

2. Fill 'Em Up Before You Send 'Em Out. A good meal prior to parties and trick-or-treating will minimize the amount of sweets your youngsters fill up on. Give them a nutritious meal, their favorite IsaLean® Shake or warm their insides with the comforting, delicious taste of our new IsaLean® Soups before they brave the cool night.

3. Take Candy From Your Toddlers And Teens. You tried to fill them up, but sometimes kids just can't resist the sugar. Live by the rule "everything in moderation" at least for the holiday. Let your kids choose a few candy treats to eat now and ration the rest to be eaten a little bit at a time. Or, give your kids the option of leaving their candy for the "switch witch" who comes at night like the tooth fairy, takes the candy and leaves toys in her wake. The rule? The more candy that's left, the better the toy.

4. When Your Doorbell Rings, Make The Better, Bad Choice. When handing out candy, go for the fun-size snack packs with fewer calories, less sugar and fat. When you consider that 30 percent of children ages two to 19 will show up at your door overweight or obese, you might think twice about dishing out that jumbo candy bar. Consider handing out spooky stickers, trading cards, school supplies like pens and pencils or creepy coloring books instead of sugary treats. If you want to be the coolest house on the block, you could even pass out Want More Energy?® Sticks. With the smaller snack sizes and cool trinkets there's less of the bad stuff, but kids still love them and you're less likely to get "boo-ed!"

5. When the Party Invitation Comes, Make Another Better, Bad Choice. You know there will be tables filled with goodies, so it's important that you commit to a plan now. If you know you can't avoid the temptation of pumpkin pie or candy corn, eat it in moderation and plan your next Cleanse Day. Follow our Holiday Health Plan to stay on track. Also, try eating a hearty meal before heading out the door for the party by filling up on your favorite IsaLean® Shake or Soup.

6. Sign Up For a Halloween Fun Run/Walk and Support a Good Cause. There's never been a better time to take part in a Halloween Fun Run. Many cities host runs or walks near Halloween as a tie-in to raise awareness for childhood obesity and promote the health of children and families. Check out your local paper for events in your town, suit up in your Isagenix® workout gear and promote a good cause.

7. Bake to Boost the Halloween Spirit. If you're hosting a party for adults, put together a party platter of your favorite Isagenix products. Festive bowls filled with IsaDelight™, bite-sized squares of IsaLean® Bars and a punch bowl filled with Want More Energy?® in Orange is sure to be the talk of the town. Making homemade goodies too? Consider ditching the white sugar and using healthy alternative sweeteners to reduce calories.
