Starting Over Later in Life
I learned the lesson of perseverance early in life. I built several multi–million dollar businesses with my partners and felt like my life was going smoothly. Then the economy plummeted and left me bankrupt.
As an older man, I knew I couldn't give up. I strived for new goals and started from scratch using the business savvy I'd acquired throughout the years. Luckily my business took off again, but at a big cost in another way—I lost my health.
Stress is a dangerous thing. My weight was out of control and I didn't make the time to exercise or diet. My idea of a good night was a tub of greasy popcorn on the couch with my family. Hobbling down the stairs while holding the rail was a common practice.
